An Autumn Puzzle.

Fields in October.
A typical day in October, the clouds are heavy and it is raining every day. The days are dark and the nights are cold. During the last weekend about half million immigrating birds left us. Some swans are still here, in spite of night frosts.
Midsummer.
Rosa spinosissima ‘Plena’.
This beautiful rose bush is “Juhannusruusu”, Midsummer rose and just in time.
Summertime.
These old dandelions look like lace blossoms.
Now it is the time of a year, when nights are almost as bright as days. In the Northern parts of Finland the sun is above the horizon at nights now.
This June has been warm and dry, two months and no rain. I wonder how all the plants in the yard are so still so green.
This photo is taken at six o’ clock in the evening.

Our World In January, Just Grey and White.
The Shortest Day of the Year. Winter Solstice. Solsticio de Invierno.
The winter solstice occurs when one of the Earth’s poles has its maximum tilt away from the Sun. To us this day means our days are getting longer and the sun will show her face.
Colourful October. Красочный октябрь.
In the Middle of Snow.
The weather is unpredictable.
The temperature changed from – 30° C/ -22°F to 0°C/ 32°F in Northern parts of Finland. Cranky weather has been very typical here during last months. On Tuesday we had the most beautiful, cold and sunny day. On Wednesday morning it was raining/ snowing and the whole world was dirty gray. Here is below two views from our kitchen window. Quite a difference!
Winterland.
An Arctic Sunset. Заход солнца.
Polar Night. Kaamos. Полярная ночь.
The polar night occurs in the northernmost and southernmost regions of the Earth when the night lasts 24 hours. This occurs only inside the polar circles.
In Northern parts of Finland this polar night starts 25.11. In Finnish it is called kaamos. The sun in under the horizon about eight weeks. It is not totally dark , it is soft twlight.
Here in our area the sun doesn´t go under the horizon, but the shortest day, the sun above the horizon, is only about three and half hours.
A working cat. Kissa työssä.
Hi, it´s me Kosmo here. An amazing story in today´s newpaper, a cat named Pörri, is working in Pyhtää municipality. She works in an information office and welcomes all the visitors. She has worked there already seven years. She lives in a nearby house, and is every morning ready to work. She has, of course, an ID card.
Iltalehti newspaper presented Pörri, a working cat, today.
A cat is KISSA in Finnish, I pronounced like i in a word lip and A like a in a word car.
And here she is!
A house for a hedgehog. Дом ёжа. Siilin talo.
My husband is building a new house for a hedgehog. We help a hedgehog putting some dry hay inside the house and it can collect more if needed. It carries hay in it´s mouth and it is a huge work. The house is made waterproof. If it is warm days in winter and the snow is melting, water can´t get inside the house and wet a sleeping inhabitant and then freeze it when it is frost again. This house will be the third one under a huge pile of branches and dry leaves in a peaceful corner in our yard. My husband said that this easy to build and it is very important, because nowadays hedgehogs is very difficult to find a place for winter because of too clean gardens and yards.
Butterflies arrived on Saturday. Бабочки в сентябре. Perhoset tulivat.
As you remeber I was worried were are all the butterflies. On Saturday suddenly their most famous plant was full of them.
Black currants more than ever.
On Friday and Saturday we were picking black currants. The bushes were really full of berries. We have now in a freezer about 20 litres for the winter, and the bushes have still more, maybe for tomorrow.
A forest. Metsä. Лес.
Yesterday we made a walk to a forest, I was taking photos, my husband was checking that this forest does well and is growing. Everything there is ready for the winter to come.
A day in August. Elokuun päivä.
This August has some days left. Our temperatures are like in October, today +13 °C/ 54°F. The wind blows straight from the North. Berries and apples are all soon ready to pick. We picked today all the redcurrants, black ones were not ripe enough. The leaves of cherry trees are turning yellow and falling down. Apples have already red cheeks.
Have a peaceful Sunday!
Clouds sailed today very low and slowly, green color on fields looked very dark.
Autumn is near. Syksy lähestyy.
Lucifer and Klaara.
A strong heat wave, called Lucifer, attacked Europe last week and Lucifer´s tail hit for us two warm and sunny days, Thursday and Friday. After that a thunderstorm Klaara visited us on Saturday and Sunday.
Visiting Ähtäri Zoo. An European Bison. Visentti.
A sad story with almost a happy end.
Reflections. Heijastuksia. Отражение.
After loading photos of geese and ducks I noticed interesting reflections in the water. These birds were inside of a glass house.

July with flowers. Heinäkuun kukkia.
After a rainy and cold days, the temperature is now +25°C/ 77°F. These warm winds made our lilac tree blossom, I have never seen it so full of flowers as now. I am sorry I can´t have the odour in the photos. Our garden is like a perfumery.

Fields in Southwest Finland.
These photos are taken yesterday In Panelia, a village in southwest Finland. A camera does not tell the truth how huge these fields are. Long, long ago this whole area has been under a sea.
June in Finland. Kesäkuu Suomessa.
Problems and surprises. Ongelmia ja yllätyksiä.
This blog has been very quiet almost two weeks. We had some real summer days, then it started to rain. It was good, because it was such a long dry season we had to water our trees and plants, but to take beautiful photos of rain was difficult.
I had also problems to transfer photos from the camera to the computer, I didn´t find any reason why, and today everything worked quite easily.
What was the first surprise? It was and is a cat. We saw in winter a grey cat in our yard when it was more than -20°C/ -4°F cold. We tried to take it inside, but it was very fearful and ran away. We didn´t see it again and we thought that it didn´t survive. When the few summer days came, so came this cat back. It was a tiny cat, just skin and bones. After feeding it stayed in our yard. So we continued to feed her, no more “it” and one day my husband carried her to our sauna, as a quarantine place. She just slept and ate for two weeks and then she started to explore the house.
Kosmo knew that we have a cat in sauna, the girl was spitting and growling there. Then they were allowed to see each others shortly. Kosmo was at first very angry, and I think, jealous, too. Day by day they got more common time, it was hissing and fighting at the beginning, but every day was better, and yesterday I saw Kosmo licking her head.
When we took that girl to our sauna, we decided to let her eat and sleep some days and then we will take her to a shelter. The end of a story: she is still here and her name Pippi, after the wisest cat we have ever had.
The second almost surprise was a postcard from Benji and Ms. Zulu in Florida. This photo of the card is not very sharp, but you see there our two doggie friends. Here is a link to their blog, which is full of adventures https://lifeofbenji.com
Today, Friday, + 25°C/ +77°F!
What a day we had, the first warm day! The sun and warm wind made a miracle under our old oak. In the afternoon it was all yellow. Yellow wood anemones had opened their buttons, and small Gagea lutea, I cound´t find an English name for it, we call it käenrieska, a cuckoo´s bread, I don´t know the reason. Just a guess, cuckoos are cuckooing at the same time these flowers are in blossom.
I have in my camera 50X optical zoom, and I took the last photo of a bird high up on the top of a spruce.
